Connecticut River Pilgrimage 2020

A River of Life Pilgrimage hosted by the Washington (DC) National Cathedral, in cooperation with Kairos Earth.

Information about the 2020 Connecticut River Pilgrimage

 

  • This trip is suitable for all ages and all levels of paddling experience. Kairos Earth will review and accept applications to ensure pilgrim health and well-being and to create a safe paddling experience for everyone — almost everyone who applies is able to join our River of Life Pilgrimages.

     

  • The deadline to apply is Wednesday, April 1. Notification of acceptance as a paddling pilgrim will be on a rolling basis from now until all spots are filled or the deadline has passed.  All applicants will receive an email notification of their status no later than April 10.

    • We welcome applicants that are under 18; however, each youth selected as a paddling pilgrim must be accompanied by a parent/guardian — so both people should apply before the deadline.

  • There are two segments for the 2020 Connecticut River Pilgrimage — you can apply to one or the other…or both!

    • Segment #1 ~ Sunday, May 31 – Wednesday, June 3

      • White River Junction (VT) to Springfield (VT)

      • 32 paddling miles total

      • 2 nights camping + 1 night at a host church

      • Number of pilgrim spots available = 16

    • Segment #2 ~ Wednesday, June 3 – Saturday, June 6

      • Springfield (VT) to Brattleboro (VT)

      • 33 paddling miles total

      • 1 night camping + 2 nights at host churches

      • Number of pilgrim spots available = 10

  • Registration cost is $1,400 per segment and includes the following: a $250 donation to the Center for Prayer & Pilgrimage; canoes + paddles; Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs / life-jackets); 24/7 professional outdoor & spiritual guiding; off-river support; all food & potable water; group cooking gear; River of Life Prayer Book; River of Life yellow wicking hat; and basic medical kit. Also included is transportation from a designated meeting spot in New Hampshire to the Pilgrimage segment beginning location, plus transportation at the end of your paddling segment to a designated return location.

     

  • Individual transportation to/from New Hampshire, travel insurance, and any personal expenses outside the pilgrimage are not covered by the registration cost. Washington National Cathedral will assist with coordinating your transportation inquiries though — contact Terri Simpson at the email listed below for suggestions and timelines.

     

  • What you would be responsible for bringing: personal clothing & toiletries, plus personal camping items including a tent (which will work for nights at a campsite or at a host church).  A complete packing list will be provided.

     

  • The Connecticut River Pilgrimage is a spiritual journey with regular times of prayer, spiritual practice, and silence.  Our shared practices are rooted in Christian prayer and Scripture; however, applicants from other faith traditions or none at all are welcome to join us.   • The river and spiritual guides for the 2020 Connecticut River Pilgrimage are Mark Kutolowski and Dani Erdley.  Mark has guided Kairos Earth’s River of Life Pilgrimages since the inaugural 40-day Connecticut River Pilgrimage in 2017. Dani will be joining the pilgrimage team this year, bringing with her six years of wilderness ministry experience through her work in campus ministry.
